TEMPO ("we," "our," or "us") operates the TEMPO mobile application and the website tempojournal.app. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use our services.
By using TEMPO, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our services.
When you create an account, we collect your email address and password (stored securely via hashing). This is required to provide you with a personal, private experience.
When you record a journal entry, your audio recording is sent securely to our third-party AI provider (currently OpenAI) for transcription and mood analysis. OpenAI processes this data via their API, which does not use your data to train their models. After processing, the resulting transcript and mood data are stored locally on your device. We do not retain your audio recordings on our servers after processing.
TEMPO's AI analyzes your transcript to categorize your mood into one of 12 emotional categories (e.g., Happy, Sad, Anxious, Calm). This data is stored locally on your device, keyed to your account.
If you join our waitlist, we collect your email address through Formspree, a third-party form service. We use this solely to notify you when TEMPO launches.
We may collect basic usage analytics such as app opens, feature usage, device type, and operating system version. This helps us improve the app.
We use the information we collect to:
We use the following third-party services to operate TEMPO:
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.
Your journal entries (transcripts, mood data, audio recordings) are stored locally on your device. We do not store your journal content on our servers. Account authentication (email and password) is handled by Supabase, which stores only your login credentials securely — not your journal entries.
Audio recordings are transmitted securely (encrypted in transit via HTTPS/TLS) to OpenAI for processing only. After transcription and mood analysis are complete, the results are returned to your device and stored locally. We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, but no system is 100% secure.
Your journal data is stored on your device for as long as you use the app. If you delete the app or your account, your local data is removed. Waitlist emails are stored by our form processor (Formspree) and retained until we send the launch notification. After launch, we will delete waitlist data from Formspree unless you have opted in to further communications. You may request removal from the waitlist at any time by emailing us.
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@tempojournal.app. We will respond within 30 days.
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA):

If you reside in Virginia (VCDPA), Colorado (CPA), Connecticut (CTDPA), Utah (UCPA), or other states with consumer privacy laws, you may have similar rights to access, delete, and opt out of certain data processing. Contact us at the email above to exercise these rights.
TEMPO is operated by a sole proprietor based in Slovenia. If you are in the EU/EEA, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the rights listed in Section 6 above, plus:
Legal bases for processing: consent (waitlist signup, voice recording), contract performance (providing the service), and legitimate interest (analytics, service improvement).
Your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States (e.g., by OpenAI and Supabase). These transfers are conducted using appropriate safeguards as required by applicable law.
TEMPO is not intended for children under 13 years of age (or under 16 in the EU/EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with their information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the updated policy on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Your continued use of TEMPO after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
